Heating repair costs in Ventura County vary widely depending on what’s wrong with the system. Some repairs are inexpensive and fast — a thermocouple replacement, a flame sensor cleaning, a thermostat battery — and some are major decisions that touch the long-term question of whether to repair or replace. Kaiser starts every heating repair with a diagnostic visit so you get a real number, not a phone-call guess.
Natural gas furnaces, propane furnaces, electric furnaces, and heat pumps each have different parts, different failure modes, and different repair complexity. The component that fails determines the repair time and the part cost.
Furnaces in the 12-to-18-year range often hit a point where replacement parts are harder to source and labor time goes up. A part that's a 30-minute swap on a 6-year-old furnace can be a 2-hour job on a 15-year-old one because the labor accessing the part is harder.
A failed igniter or flame sensor is typically the cheapest end of the heating repair range. A cracked heat exchanger or failed inducer motor is much further up the scale. A failed control board is in the middle.
When Kaiser diagnoses a furnace, the technician also checks combustion: carbon monoxide levels, gas pressure, flame behavior. A repair that fixes the immediate symptom but ignores combustion safety isn't a real repair. This is one of the reasons Kaiser won't quote heating work over the phone — combustion safety has to be checked in person.
If your heating system is a heat pump (an electric system that doubles as your AC in summer), repair costs follow different patterns. Compressors, reversing valves, and defrost controls are the most common heat pump failure points, and they cost more to repair than typical gas furnace components.
For repairs that approach the cost of a partial system replacement, Kaiser offers financing for qualified customers — which often makes a major repair manageable instead of pushing it to next year.
Heating problems don’t wait for convenient business hours. Kaiser’s technicians live in Ventura County, so service calls happen fast across our core cities:

Camarillo winters are mild compared to inland California but still cold enough that a failed furnace is a real problem. Our warehouse here means parts are typically same-day available.

Coastal humidity and salt air affect heating systems too — corrosion on flue pipes and ignition components is more common here than inland. Our technicians know what to look for.

From older Spanish-style homes with original gas furnaces to newer construction with high-efficiency heat pumps, Ventura heating systems range widely. Kaiser repairs all of them.

Inland Thousand Oaks sees real cold snaps — meaningfully colder than the coast. Larger Thousand Oaks homes often have multi-zone heating systems where one zone failing can be missed until comfort drops.

Higher-efficiency variable-speed gas furnaces and Carrier Infinity heat pumps are common in Westlake homes. Kaiser is factory-trained on the full Carrier residential heating lineup and authorized to service these systems under warranty.

Not every heating problem is an emergency, but some are. Knowing the difference matters.
The repair-versus-replace decision on heating systems is one of the more important calls you’ll make as a homeowner. Here’s how Kaiser thinks about it:
Systems in the 10-to-15-year range with a moderate repair need — is where the in-home estimate matters most. Kaiser will lay out the numbers: what the repair costs now, what a replacement costs, what the projected energy savings of a new high-efficiency system would be, and what financing options are available for qualified customers. You make the call with real numbers in front of you, not a sales pitch.
If you do decide replacement is the right move, Kaiser handles the full project end-to-end — sizing, equipment selection, permits, installation, and removal of the old system. See our residential HVAC installation page →for what a Kaiser installation involves.
Yes, with one caveat: as furnaces age past 15 years, parts become harder to source and more expensive. We’ll let you know if a specific part is going to take days to get or if it’s significantly cheaper to retire that system than to keep paying for diminishing-availability parts.
The diagnostic visit covers a technician coming to your home, identifying the heating problem, performing combustion safety checks, and giving you a written estimate. If you approve the repair, the diagnostic fee may be credited toward the repair cost. We explain the specifics when you book.
Yes, we offer financing for qualified customers, which lets you spread the cost of a major repair into manageable monthly payments. We’ll walk you through the financing options during your service visit if the repair scope warrants it.
